I have enjoyed my day off today! I dusted off the ol' bike-a-roo and took her for a spin on the trace. I had to air up the tires before I left (you should always do that, especially with road bike tires as less air you have, the more likely you are to pop your tube and get a flat.)
Unfortunately for me, the tires take in 115 pounds of pressure. I only weigh 90. (Yeah, yeah, I hear all of you "poor me.") At the risk of looking like an absolute IDIOT, I filled the tires by the apartment instead of when I got to the trailhead. I only got in 100 pounds, but that's good enough.
So off I went! SPF 70 on the face, tires aired up. Five miles into the ride, I came upon a runner. Using proper bike etiquette, I yelled, "On your left!" and looked behind me, but I couldn't go around because two other riders were speeding up. (Of course.) Before I knew it, there was a crash, bang and loud "F***, DUDE!"
For some reason, rider #1 started braking as he was passing, and rider #2 clipped his back tire and crashed on the pavement stopping in the middle of the trail. My spider senses were on vacation, because I BARELY slowed down in time stopping right in front of rider #2 and almost didn't clip my shoes out in time, which would have resulted in me falling on top of him and adding insult to injury.
There was rider #2, a portly fellow, with a new bike dinged up and road rash from his shoulder to his ankle. I think the runner disappeared into the swamp because I didn't see him again and he didn't stop to make sure the cyclist was okay! Did I mention he was running in board shorts?? WHO DOES THAT?!
#2 had some bleeding and skin missing, but he could move his shoulder and elbow decently and walk around without difficulty. The two guys actually continued on with their ride!
I finished my ride and did a little run afterwards, passing a very nice looking young man in spandex. (The fabric of our lives, right?)
Anyhoo, tonight is DFO at Mama K's (Dinner for Orphans = me, Jennifer and Joe) followed by the Dancing With The Stars results show! Tomorrow will hold another (hopefully less exciting) brick workout and MAYBE a trip to the pool for some relaxation and sun. Unless of course our crazy, sexually confused neighbor and her demon children are there.
